Charles Ray Preston, 80, of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2019 in Lubbock Texas. He was born in Iraan, Texas to Leonard and Oma Preston on December 23, 1938 in a snow storm.
Charles graduated from Reagan County High School in Big Lake,Texas in 1957.
He entered the Army in November 1961 and was honorably discharged with a good conduct metal and expert in riffle M-14 In November 1963.
He went to work for Tommy Steiner Rodeo Company in the early 60’s as a bull fighter/rodeo clown along side Tommy Owens.
In 1966 he started his career in the oil and gas industry working for El Paso Natural Gas in Midkiff, Texas and was later transferred to Sonora, Texas in 1970 where he raised his famiy. He continued his career until his retirement from Maverick Stimulations Company, LLC in 2009.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Mertzon and Sonora, Texas and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
He married Regina Stubblefield in November 1986 in San Angelo, Texas.
He enjoyed a warm day on the golf course or in a boat fishing. He loved his family, friends, and Facebook. He looked forward to his early morning text messages with his son in law, John. Charles looked forward to spending time with his son, Tommy on his monthly trips to Granbury. He never let his daughter, Laura forget to wash his teeth and put eye drops in his eyes every night. He hardly ever missed Tuesday morning breakfast with his lady friends in Granbury. Charles wanted everyone to know that he lived a great life!
He is survived by his children: Laura Laurent and her husband John of Clovis New Mexico, Tommy Preston and his wife Kaysi of White Deer Texas. Grandchildren Lissandra Ramos, Meggan Gonzales and her husband Morgan, Paige Preston and her boyfriend Colton Bradley, Ashley Preston, Riggan Preston and his wife Alisyn, Kade Preston, and Kooper Preston. Great-Grandchildren Loggen Carter, Taylyn Carter, Makenna Gonzales, Maicen Gonzales, Preston Bradley, Brantley Preston, and Maddox Gonzales.
He was proceded in death by his parents and his wife Regina J Preston.
The family would like to thank Kris Grimland for always watching out for Charles and for being by his side.
Viewing will be Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 5 – 9 PM at Johnson’s Funeral Home at 435 West Beauregard Ave. San Angelo, Texas.
Graveside services will be Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens at 4989 FM 1223 San Angelo, Texas
Reception to follow at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
