Marjorie Rae Baird Morgan

1928 ~ 2010

Marjorie Baird Morgan, wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother quietly passed from this life into her Heavenly Father’s care on October 15, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Salt Lake City on March 16, 1928 to Clarence and Afton Free Baird. She leaves a legacy of independence, hard work, tenacity, caring for the emotional well being of others and love of the beauty of Nature. Mom met Dad, Stanley Roy Morgan, while both were pursuing higher education at the University of Utah and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept 9, 1948.

She supported Stan in his educational and career pursuits while raising a family of four children. Mom continued her education while raising her young family, earning a B.S. in 1956 and finally earning her M.S. in social work in 1965 from the U of U. She subsequently pursued her own successful career as a mental health professional, helping hundreds of patients improve their lives. She worked as a psychiatric social worker for University of Utah Med Center, Primary Childrens’ Hospital and South Valley Mental Health Center. Mom continued her lifelong education by earning a Master Gardener’s certification which eventually led to her serving an LDS mission in the gardens at Temple Square from Sept 1994 to March 1997, working with handicapped young adults who desired to serve. Marjorie will always be remembered for her lovely garden where she often was found bent over weeding or tending to a sick plant.

Mom is survived by her four children, Maridyth (Guy) Hatch, Logan, UT; S. Baird (Karen) Morgan, Salt Lake; Reed Morgan, St. George; Gayle (Randy) James, Salt Lake; Sister Dorothy Bradley, Salt Lake; 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Stan, brothers Bruce and Robert Baird, sister Eleanor Baird and grandson Matthew Morgan.

Funeral services will be held at East Millcreek 9thWard Chapel, 3760 South, Hillside Lane (2500 East), on Saturday, October 23rd, 11:00 a.m. There will be a viewing prior to funeral 9:30 a.m. at the church. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive, SLC. In lieu of flowers, donations to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI, Utah) in Marjorie’s name and in her honor would be greatly appreciated.
