Nicholas (Nick) Attilio Caruso, 58, passed away on March 25, 2023. Nicholas Attilio Caruso was born to Nicholas Peter Caruso and Ruth Ann Caruso on July 29, 1964 in Red Bank, New Jersey. His brother Gregory joined the family a short 18 months later. As an Army family, they were cemented together as the best of friends as they experienced living in Ethiopia, Germany, Colorado Springs, Georgia, Delaware, and San Antonio. Nick took great pride in engaging in mischief on several continents. Nick was an athlete in high school and while he loved baseball, he was a talented defensive lineman for the Nuremberg Eagles wearing the green and white while playing football across Germany. Perhaps this experience gave way to Nick’s love for the Philadelphia Eagles. Nick’s loyalty remained even during the many, many tough years. Nick graduated (despite making efforts to the contrary) from Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio, Texas. Nick found his niche; first as an electrician apprentice, then as an electrician and at the time of his passing he was the Assistant Business Manager for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Nick was a proud member of the IBEW for over 30 years and formed lasting friendships through the brotherhood that expanded across generations. Nick had a lifelong love of music and an affinity for guitars. Van Halen and Led Zeppelin were favorites and the background music to many bonfires. Nick’s passion for poker was not lucrative enough to allow him to retire and join the World Poker Tour but he found great joy in taking his friends’ money while sipping fine whiskey at their annual poker tournament. Nick showered his friends and family with quick witted jokes. He kept laughter at the center of every event. If you were lucky enough to be his friend, you endured relentless teasing, but it was a small price to pay for being one of his people. You knew you were loved. Like a good Italian, food was the center of every gathering. Nick was a great cook and enjoyed making meals for those he cared for. As Nick’s illness progressed, he passed along his recipe for rice (rinse twice) with his beloved wife whom he cooked for every day. Nick was larger than life and left his imprint on many lives but none more than his wife, Christine, daughter, Gabrielle, and grandson, Riley. Meeting Chris in 1988, they married on July 18, 1996 in a simple ceremony. During their dating years, Nick lost part of his finger and all of his heart. Married for 26 years, he kept life busy and full of laughter. Gabrielle was born in 1997. All the love he had for Chris multiplied and became his love for her. Gabrielle learned how to stand up for what you believe in and not take life too seriously from her father. Nick loved watching her play lacrosse with the Findlay Oilers and was so proud of their conference championship in 2019. In 2021, that love multiplied again for Riley. Riley has already developed a love for music and guitars. Riley will be surrounded by family and friends who will keep his “Pop’s” memory alive with love, laughter, and music. Nick passed away peacefully on March 25, 2023 surrounded by love. Although his life was much shorter than anyone wanted, he lived it to the fullest. Nick is preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Peter Caruso. He leaves in this life his wife, Chris, of Salisbury, Maryland, daughter Gabrielle (Kevin) and grandson Riley of metro-Detroit Michigan, his mother Ruth of Salisbury, brother Gregory (Audrey), nephews Nathan and Gavin of Burke, Virginia, and many, many friends. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 1-2 p.m., with visitation from 12-1 and services from 1-2 at Bounds Funeral Home, 705 East Main Street, Salisbury Maryland. There will time to remember Nick at Market Street Inn located at 130 W. Market Street in Salisbury immediately following the service. Friends and family are invited to share pictures, stories, music and laughter in Nick’s memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to World Central Kitchen to honor Nick’s love for food and its ability to bring people together. www.wck.org
