Madlyn B. Smith, 92, of Salisbury passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Lakeside Assisted Living. Born in Newburyport, MA April 12, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Henry A. Boesch and Marion Soars Boesch. Madlyn graduated from Rutherford High School in New Jersey, and New Jersey College for Women (Rutgers). Upon graduation she married Harry N. Smith, a veterinary student at Cornell University and worked in the College of Home Economics until his graduation. She then devoted her life to assisting him in his large animal veterinary practice, raising her four children, and participating in all of their activities- whether it be school, church, sports, or scouts. She enjoyed family camping vacations, especially weekends on Assateague. She was active in Wicomico Presbyterian Church and community volunteering. She was an accomplished seamstress, loved all types of needlework, and an avid bridge player. She is survived by her children, William Smith and his wife, Yvonne, of Harrisburg, Pa., Deborah Dashiell and her husband, Donald, of Salisbury and Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Anita, of Princess Anne; daughter-in-law Carol Smith of Lake Geneva, WI; grandchildren, Brian Smith, Amy Smith Schuster, Andrew Smith, Donny Dashiell, Spencer Dashiell and Madlyn Dashiell; five great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Boesch and his wife Barbara, sister-in-law, Ruth Burke; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Harry N. Smith and son, Dr. Martin Smith. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:30 AM at Wicomico Presbyterian Church, 129 Broad St., Salisbury where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Dr. Donald Rising will officiate. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Madlyn to The American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
