Jay worked as a welder with the Boilermakers Union out of Baltimore, and had traveled for work for several years. Due to injuries on the job, Jay retired early.
Jay was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Ruark Washburn, a special aunt, Cathy Whalan, and his grandmother, Virginia Ruark.
Jay is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Vonnie Hudson Johnson, daughter Madison Hilary Johnson and her fiancée Carl Evans, and granddaughter Aveline Alice Ann Evans.
Jay is also survived by his brother and his family. Also surviving are several brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as nieces and nephews.
Jay was retired and enjoyed taking care of his home, his family, taking his granddaughter Ava on special adventures, and spending time with his dog, Lacie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jay’s memory to the Worcester County Humane Society, 12330 Eagles Nest Road, Berlin, MD 21811 or the Humane Society of Wicomico County, 5130 Citation Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804.
Services will be held Sunday at 2pm at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury. Reverend Nancy Soulsman will be officiating.
