Bonnie Burton Barnidge, 84, of Salisbury passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at her home. Born June 17, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Irwin G. and Maradel Geuting Burton. Bonnie was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury and a Third Order Franciscan. She was a Licensed Social Worker with the State of Maryland and Catholic Social Services.
History and genealogy were her passions. Bonnie especially enjoyed the history of the Eastern Shore. She was instrumental in having the 1665 play, “Ye Bare and Ye Cubb” re-enacted at Salisbury University. This was the first play of the New World. Working on the genealogies of Geuting and Burton families, Bonnie fulfilled her love of intellectual pursuits. Collaborating with family members on genealogy gave her great pleasure.
She is survived by her son, Francis “Frank” T. Barnidge, Jr. and his wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Chris Barnidge and his wife, Kathryn, and Megan Barnidge; stepdaughter, Susan Holtzman and her husband Bob; brother, David G. Burton and his wife, Ann; sisters, Nellie Ziegler, Peggy Spengler and her husband, Gary, Joy Hudecz, Suzanne H. Graham and her husband, Harry; brother-in-law, George Sonnichsen; sister-in-law, Gloria Burton; and several nieces and nephews. Bonnie was preceded in death by her sons, David M. Barnidge and Joseph Barnidge; brother, John H. Burton and sister, Sally Sonnichsen.
