Walter Lawrence “Larry” Bushey, born on October 28, 1947, beloved papa, passed away on January 29, 2023 from complications of lung cancer surrounded by the ones he loved most and lived for, his five children.
Larry was born to Carmen Montoya and Lawrence Cristiani in San Francisco, CA. Larry was raised by his mother and stepfather, Walter Bushey, from the age of 5. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1965, where he served aboard the U.S.S. Midway and the U.S.S Oriskany as a hospital corpsman until 1969. He served in active duty during the Vietnam War. Larry then attended the College of Saint Scholastica, in Duluth, MN where he studied history, literature and discovered his love for printing on hand presses. He continued his printing hobby as a member of the American Press Association for many years, printing under the name White Horse Press.
He was an avid reader and collector of rare books, and loved to share his knowledge with anyone who would entertain him. His other passion was family. Known to “go all out” on Christmas, he was very generous and found joy in spoiling his children and grandchildren.
Larry held a 30 year career as a surgical technician. He was known for his fast, steady hands, strong work ethic, reliability, and stamina in the operating room.
Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Bushey; his children: Rilke Klingsporn, Nayda Taylor, Francisco “Paco” Bushey, Rosa Bushey, and Carmen Bushey; his grandchildren: Annalise Klingsporn, Setsuo McCarthy, Decker Bushey and Hudson Taylor, his sisters: Bernadette “Bunny” Bushey and Patricia Wigney; his uncle: John Montoya; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Larry will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
