Wally was born September 28, 1932, in Metter, Georgia, where he was raised. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He honorably served in the Korean War. After serving, he joined the Naval Reserves and Seabees, retiring after 26 years. He moved to Sacramento, California in 1955. He worked at McClellan Air Force Base where he was an aircraft mechanic. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, camping and motorcycles. He belonged to the BMW Motorcycle Club. He married his first wife, Carol. They had three sons together. They later divorced. He married Eleanor on April 28, 1973. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2019. After her death he moved to Salem, Oregon to be with his son and wife.
Wally is survived by his sons and their wives, Wayne Martin, Mira Loma, California; Bill & Debbie Martin, Salem, Oregon; and David & Deina Martin, Fort Myers, Florida; and also, his eight grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt Scott Blvd, Portland, OR 97086. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Battle Creek Memory Care, 1805 Waln Dr SE, Salem, OR 97306 in Wally’s name.
