She was born Ruth Allene Newton on Labor Day September 5, 1932 to Elmer and Esther Newton. She was born in Drain, Oregon and graduated from Marshfield High school in Coos Bay, Oregon. She attended and graduated from Southern Oregon College in Ashland, Oregon in 1953 She married Howard James Wood on October 16, 1954. Howard preceded her in death.
With a teaching degree, she was a lifelong learner and teacher. She taught elementary through college age in Salem, Ashland, Medford, Central Point, and Idaho.
She was a lifelong member and ministry leader and teacher in the Christian Churches. She loved to sing, play piano, teach, scrapbook, write, read and crochet potholders.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law Bob and Sheri Wood and daughter and son in law Mary and Dale Phipps. 5 grandchildren, Matt and Amber Phipps, Natalie and Richard Schuessler, Nathaniel and Catey Phipps, Emily and Amos Kirk, and Maegy and Mike Bouck. 12 Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
