Jill Webb Larson passed away on November 2, 2023 at the age of 45 in Salem Oregon, surrounded by family in the ICU at Salem Hospital. Her passing marked the end of a decades long battle with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which she fought bravely with everything she had, particularly in the last year. OCD takes many forms and is often misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or dismissed as overthinking. Only those who have suffered as Jill did can truly understand the courage, patience, and persistence that she had for so long before it became too much to bear.
Jill was born on April 8, 1978 in Murray, Utah to Diana S. Barton and Randy L. Webb. She was the oldest of three children, and took the role of older sister to heart, creating games, puzzles, magnetic fishing booths, and homemade stickers to entertain her brother and sister. She loved going on adventures and camping trips with her family and cousins. She loved helping others even at a young age. She often told the story of taking the bus at 12 years old to downtown Salt Lake City to volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club. She attended Skyline High School, where she excelled academically and musically, performing a Prokofiev concerto as the piano soloist with the orchestra.
Jill graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and a minor in Management. Jill was awarded the presidential scholarship and was a cum laude graduate. While at BYU Jill met her future husband, Brady. He took her to the symphony on their first date and soon after she discovered that he could beat her at the word game Boggle, two sure signs that this was a match made in heaven. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on July 31, 1999.
After working professionally for a few years while her husband finished his graduate degree, Jill worked at home as an amazing mother to four children for the next 13 years. She re-entered the work force to follow her interests and save up for her children’s college in 2016. She worked as a tutor in the AVID program, then moved on to be the HR Special Programs Manager at ODOT for four years, followed by her latest employment as an HR recruiter at Oregon DHS. She loved working in fields that helped to lift others. Jill loved to travel and see beautiful places and other cultures and traditions. She was always fascinated with people and could become close friends with anyone in very short order. She was “all-in” when it came to loving others. She loved designing and decorating her homes and making them into fun, welcoming, beautiful places. Jill loved to hunt for bargains and unique items. She filled her home with beautiful things from Goodwill or antique shops and loved to come home with a pile of clothes for the family from “the bins”. Jill enjoyed passing the time reading in her hammock or on a blanket in the sun, solving crossword puzzles, painting, and cross-stitching. Most of all, Jill loved her four children, cheering them on, always in awe of their talents, creating and capturing volumes of memories of travel and adventure, and making them their favorite treats to celebrate a good day, alleviate a bad one, or, most often, just because.
Jill is survived by her husband Brady M. Larson, children Lia G. Larson, Daniel B. Larson, Jonah R. Larson, Tess I. Larson, her parents Randy and Diana Webb, her brother Bracken (Amy) Webb, her sister Erin (Riki) Graybill, and far too many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews to list here.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 9th at 1:00pm at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem Oregon. Live streaming of the service will be available for family or friends unable to attend.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Jill’s memory, please consider donating your time or money to a cause of your choice that would improve the lives of any in less fortunate circumstances.
