SALEM - Ima was born Ima Pearl Darley on August 20, 1919 to Charles and Pearl (Parkinson) Darley in Klamath Falls, Ore., the fifth of 6 children. Ima served in the Women's Army Corps as a stenographer taking confidential notes for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon during WWII.
Ima worked as a secretary for Ladd-n-Bush Bank and for the Salem School District. A caring person, she was deeply involved in her community and was always carrying a petition of some kind or finding someone to help.
Ima took care of and survived three husbands, Herman P. Henrikson, Lawrence Fisher and Albert Gwyn Gates. She is survived by one younger sister, Virginia Miller of Marysville, Wash.; three daughters, Rose Ann (Kent) Garrett of Turner, Ore.; Valeda (Lyn) Garrett of Salem; Heidi (Ron) Henrikson-Miner of Salem; 7 grandchildren; 1 granddog; and 13 great-grandchildren, with number 14 on the way.
Visitation will be Fri., Jan. 28 from 12 to 8 pm at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Sat. Jan. 29, 11 am at Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, 570 Madison St. NE, Salem, with interment following at Belcrest Memorial Park.
