Ernest "Ernie" Chamberlain, 100, died Tuesday, July 12th, 2016, at home, at the Turner Retirement Homes. Ernest was born on August 1st, 1915, in Corbett, Oregon, as one of six children. He attended the Corbett Christian Church and accepted Chirst as Lord at the age of 12 and was baptized in Big Creek when the snow was still on the ground.
He graduated from Corbett High School in 1933 and from the Northwest Christian College, Eugene, Oregon, with a B. Th and B. of Oratory in 1938. he received the B.D degree from Butler School of Religion in 1947.
His occupation was that of Preaching, teaching, and serving the Lord. His hobbies were fishing, golfing, and hunting.
he was ordained in March of 1936 in Fairmount Church of Christ in Eugene, Oregon. He preached at Jasper, OR; Kellog, OR; Amity and Newberg, OR; Advance, IN; Mays, IN; West Seattle Christian Church, Seattle, WA; and Caldwell First Christian, Caldwell, ID. While in Seattle he helped start Puget Sound College of the Bible. He served as Director of Development for Boise Bible College, and started the Peninsula Christian Church in Gig Harbor, WA. He also served one year as President of the North American Christian Convention, and was on the publishing committee of Standard Publishing for many years.
He married Zella Webb at First Christian Church in Salem, OR, on January 2nd, 1937, with Guy Drill officiating. They spent over 70 happy years together. They had two daughters: Gloria Oostmeyer, and Martha Chamberlain.
They had 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, along with a great host of friends.
They came to the Turner Retirement Homes because they liked the plans it has for caring for retired Christians. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to either Turner Retirement Homes, Turner Christian Church, or Boise Bible College.
Services will be held at Turner Christian Church, Turner, OR, on August 6, 2016, at 2:00pm.
