Eric attended West Hills Christian School for grades K through 8. During those years, he loved the outdoors—animals, camping, hunting, and fishing. He attended Riverdale High School, graduating in 2008. He played football and lacrosse for Riverdale and was active in the Mountain Park Church youth group as well as the Lake Oswego Young Life Club.

He did his Basic Training as well as his Airborne Training at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He was then sent overseas to Camp Casey, South Korea, for a year with the 1st Battalion, 72nd Armored Regiment. After Korea, he transferred to the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. In addition to his Airborne wings, he earned his Air Assault wings, and Expert Marksmanship badge. He achieved the rank of Specialist before being honorably discharged in 2015.
After leaving the Army, Eric worked framing houses, as well as various jobs in retail and hospitality. In 2019, Eric moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he worked in hospitality, for Oahu Cures, and for Waikiki Brewing. He was helping his friend, Sean, launch Sean’s new restaurant when he passed.
Eric is survived by parents, Ken and Jan, many aunts, uncles, and cousins in both Oregon and South Carolina, and his girlfriend, Cassie Roberts of Honolulu. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marion and Elizabeth Lewis, and Warren and Betty Carkin.
