Her life was raising her children and her grand-children. They were her greatest love and she loved to hear about all of the activities her kids and grandkids were involved in and she loved to hear about all of their adventures. She was a homemaker and worked many years as a seasonal worker at Truitt Bros. Cannery. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, canning, cooking, collecting and polishing rocks. She also loved to collect brooches and watch old TV shows and movies with “Gone with the Wind” being her all-time favorite.
She is preceded in death by her husband Richard (2010), her son Jonathan (1983), son-in-law Robin Sughrue (2014), sister’s Ruth Wright, Bessie Eischen, Adell Holden, brother’s Carl, Chester, Lawrence, and Floyd Newton.
She is survived by her sons Robert of Salem, Joseph (Sandy) of Keizer, James (Cheryl) of Salem, Tom of Gates, and Bill of Keizer; daughters Beverly (Terry) Melton of Salem, Barbara Sughrue of Ocean Shores, WA., Kathy (Mickey) Gust of Keizer, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter.
She is also survived by her brother Everett Newton of Sterling, CO who will turn 104 years old this year. Mom bragged often of her brother and she was looking forward to his birthday.
Services will be April 28, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom directors, 1350 Commercial St SE followed by graveside service at City View Cemetery, 390 Hoyt St S Salem.
