Chuck was born in Parma, Idaho, on October 6, 1931, to Charles and Catherine Duvall Peaslee. His early childhood was spent with his parents and his older sister Helen on his grandfather’s farm in Eureka, California. Later, his father supported the family with jobs in California and then in Oregon. Growing up during the Depression instilled lifelong values, including the importance of family and taking pride in hard-won accomplishments.
While living in Bremerton, Washington in 1952, Chuck joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Military Police during his Korean War deployment. He was honorably discharged in October, 1954, at Whidbey Island, Washington. Chuck was proud of his military service, remaining a loyal Marine for the rest of his life.
Chuck spent most of his career as a journeyman painter, working primarily in the automotive and technology industries in California. He spent two decades at Hewlett-Packard, retiring from there in 1998.
In 1967, his marriage to Linda Fraser Wickey brought together their six children from previous marriages. Chuck was a devoted husband, and the pair remained happily married for 54 years. They enjoyed traveling together, whether taking a cruise to U.S. Virgin Islands or touring the California wine country. They lived in California until 2014, when they moved to Salem, Oregon.
Chuck’s energy could light up a room. He loved baseball and was a lifelong Dodgers fan. He had a soft spot for little dogs, especially the series of family dachshunds. Chuck had a long love affair with cars that started with a 1937 Chevy he bought when he was eighteen. When he bought a boat, he patiently taught newcomers to water ski.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Walters.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; children Michael Peaslee, Roxanne Kalani, Cheryl Rafferty, Tamela Andersen, Charles Peaslee, and Scott Wickey; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hed-fh.com for the Peaslee family.
