Caroline Wilson Sweeney was born in Council Bluffs Iowa on July 6, 1912. She was the third child of four children born to Oscar and Georgia Bock. They have all preceded her in death. Her early childhood was spent on a small farm. In high school she was an expert marksman and captain the school rifle team. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1929 and then worked as a secretary in Omaha where she met her first husband, Charles Victor Wilson, a recent immigrant from England. Caroline and Charles Victor were married in the middle of the great depression in 1935 and lived in St. Paul, Minnesota, Detroit, Michigan, Bettendorf, Iowa and Chicago, Illinois. During those years she and CV (Charles Victor) raised a son, Charles Edward and a daughter Joan Beget . Caroline was a wonderful homemaker and worked part time as a secretary. They retired to Orlando Florida in 1972. Upon the death of her first husband in 1982, Caroline moved to Oregon to be with her two children and 5 grandchildren.
In 1987 Caroline married John Sweeney and they lived in Capitol Manor. They had a wonderful 10 years until his death in 1997.
Caroline was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren especially when they were young. She was a great cook and her specialty was yorkshire pudding to please her husband’s English heritage. She also enjoyed shuffle boarding in Florida and won several trophies. She lived at Capitol Manor until her death and made many friends there. She is survived by a son Dr Charles Wilson and daughter-in-law Nancy (Salem), daughter Joan Beget and son-in- law Barry (Springfield), five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at Capitol Manor on Monday July 18th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Oregon Chapter MS Society at 104 SW Clay, Portland OR 97201 in her name. Arrangements by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home.
