Mildred "Millie" Garfield

Born in Chelsea, MA, Millie lived a rich and fulfilling life marked by personal growth, professional achievement, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community. She spent her later years in Peabody, MA, where she continued to bring joy and inspiration to all who knew her.

Millie was a graduate of Chelsea High School and began her career at the Malden Knitting Mills. However, it was a serendipitous connection that led her to a position at Dainty Dot Hosiery, where she honed her skills in a fast-paced office environment, learning lessons that would stay with her throughout her life.

While she took pride in her role as a homemaker, Millie was also deeply involved in various community organizations. She was a devoted volunteer with Hadassah and Congregation Ahavas Sholom of Saugus, and she was an active participant in the United Jewish Appeal, which introduced her to lifelong friends, including Joe and Syd.

In addition to her work with the community, Millie had an entrepreneurial spirit, working as a territory manager for Avon, a role that allowed her to connect with others and contribute to the lives of many.

Millie’s interests and passions were not confined to the past. At the age of 78, she embraced technology and became a popular blogger, sharing her thoughts and stories with the world. Her blog, My Mom's Blog, was praised by ABC News as “whimsical,” and the Palm Beach Post dubbed her “a voice for seniors in cyberspace.” She also had fun with her video blog, I Can’t Open It, where she humorously documented the challenges older individuals face with everyday tasks.

Millie’s vibrant personality and positive energy left an indelible mark on her family and friends. Her son, Steve Garfield, shared, “She was a positive shining light in our lives, and we are going to miss her.”

Millie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Aaron Garfield, and her parents, David and Esther Stampler. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Carol Garfield.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Brooksby Assisted Living in Peabody, MA, and to her personal aide, Ana, as well as the compassionate team at Care Dimensions, who provided her with palliative and hospice care during her final days.

A Chapel service will be held at Brooksby Village Chapel Wednesday, November 20 at 11:00AM 300 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, MA 01960 The interment will be held following services at Anshe Sfard Cemetery, 16 Buxton Road, Danvers, MA 01923.
