Valerie proudly served in the United States Navy for over 20 years, where she dedicated herself to her country and earned the respect and admiration of her peers. After retiring from military service, she continued to serve her community through various volunteer efforts, including her involvement with local veterans' organizations. Outside of her service, Valerie was known for her vibrant spirit and love of life. She had a passion for singing, dancing, and always having a good time. Whether it was a family gathering, a community event, or simply enjoying music, Valerie’s joyful energy and enthusiasm brought happiness to everyone around her. She was also a devoted mother and grandmother, and she cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren, Benjamin, Sadie, and Kalea. Valerie's kindness, strength, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew her.
Valerie is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children, Jennifer (Brian) Scarola, Emily (Anthony) Bascom, and Andrew Bascom, as well as her grandchildren, Benjamin, Sadie, and Kalea. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members and close friends, who will miss her deeply.
Full Military Honors burial services will be held on December 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218, followed by a Celebration of Life at Hardage-Giddens St. Johns, 1285 St. Johns Parkway, St. Johns, FL 32259.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a veterans' charity in Valerie's honor.
