Born in Brooklyn, New York on November 24, 1947. Peacefully passed away on January 8, 2015, surrounded by his loving children. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte and John Lucas, his brother Donald, and his loving wife Marsha. He is survived by his loving children Julie (Andrea), Katie, Bonnie (Travis), Christina, Brianna and Winston, grandchildren Valentina, Charlotte, Aubrey, and Robert, siblings Dick, Jim, Dale and Diane, sisters-in-law Marilyn (Walt) and Maureen (John) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was a graduate of New York University, with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering and a Juris Doctor from McGeorge School of Law. After college, Bob was a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras. In Honduras, Bob was a municipal engineer, supervising road and building construction and various water service projects including the survey and design of a municipal gravity water system. Upon returning, Bob moved to Sacramento. Prior to starting his own lobbying business, Lucas Advocates, in 1983, Bob held several staff positions in the State Legislature, including Principle Consultant to the Subcommittee of Mass Transit, Consultant to the Subcommittee on Air Quality, and Principle Consultant to the Joint Legislative Audit Committee.
As founding member of Lucas Advocates, his clients includea alliances and individual companies engaged in electrical and other energy production and distribution activities, high-technology and chemical manufacturing, telecommunications, waste management, and those interested in air quality, water quality and other environmental issues. Bob was also a founding member and President of BSMARTE, Business for Science, Math and related technologies education. Bob was a former member of the Board of Directors of St. Michael's Day School, the California Society of Professional Enginee's Education Foundation, the Sacramento Ballet where he served as President for several years, and Cub Scout Master of Pack 802 of the Golden Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Bob was an avid skier, amateur astronomer, lover of science and an accomplished musician. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family at Lake Tahoe.
Bob dearly loved his children and will be missed by them.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held on January 20, 2015, 4:00pm at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 2140 Mission Avenue, Carmichael. A reception will follow. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Sacramento Ballet, In Memory of Bob Lucas, at 1631 K Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.
