Passed away in Sacramento, September 2, 2020, age 94. Born in Baton Rouge, LA, to Mabel Nelson Calmes and Dallas LaRoy Calmes Jr., November 7, 1925. She moved to Sacramento in 1945 and later went to work for photographer Vern W. Cartwright, eventually marrying him in 1954. Their business expanded into aerial photography and then into photogrammetry, making topographic maps from stereo aerial photography. In its prime, Cartwright Aerial Surveys Inc. employed over two dozen skilled mapping and photo processing personnel, and maintained a fleet of five aircraft. They sold the company in 1989, and retired to travel much of Europe.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Ted Ray, and by her second husband of 49 years, Vern Cartwright. Survivors include three generations of nieces and nephews.
