Harry Tew Wong passed away peacefully on October 1, 2014. He was 91 years old. Harry was born in Toishan, China on February 2, 1923. He emigrated to the United States at age 12. He eventually settled in Sacramento, CA where he lived a successful life until his death. Harry served his country during WWII as an Army Sergeant. Harry began his career in the grocery business when he co-owned Highway Market in Bryte. Later he worked at Bel Air Market until in 1961 he co-founded Jumbo Markets. He help build Jumbo into a grocery chain until he retired in 1986. Harry was married and is survived by his wife, Sylvia H. Wong. They were married for 67 years. And had 3 sons: Richard (Diana), Larry (Margie), and Albert (Rose); 6 grandchildren- Brian, Keith Clarice, Darrell, Tracy, Megan; 2 great-grand-children Brandon and Madeleine. He is survived by his brother James Q. Wong (Jane) and numerous nieces and their families.
Friends are invited to attend a visitation/wake on Friday evening, October 17, 2014 between 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A memorial service will follow on Saturday, October 18 at 11:00am. Each of these services will be held at the Harry A. Nauman & Son Funeral Home, 4041 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95822.
