Gaylene Davis Wendt passed away April 17, 2024, in Sacramento, California. Born on December 18, 1940, in Brigham City, Utah to Chester (Vern) and Edith Davis, she spent her early years in railroad towns, most interestingly at the Midlake railroad trestle in the Great Salt Lake, where her father was employed. In 1943, her family moved to California, settling in North Sacramento in 1945. She later attended Utah State University and The Merrill Palmer Institute in Detroit, earning a Bachelor's degree in Education after which she would become a teacher in Hughson, California and Sacramento. In 1968, she married her husband, Robert, and remained married until his death in 2017. A member of the LDS faith, Gaylene enjoyed attending church and was an important part of her ward's Relief Society as their secretary for many years. She enjoyed baseball (the San Francisco Giants), baking Christmas cookies every year, craft projects, trivia games, crossword, and jigsaw puzzles. Most important to her was spending time with her family. Gaylene is survived by her daughter Rebecca and husband Joseph; son Scott and wife Amira; grandsons Quinn and Bennett, many nieces and nephews, and sister Rhea Jones. Preceded in death by her parents, sisters Diane Davis and Doris Stewart and husband Robert. Graveside services will be on Wednesday May 1, 2024; 10:15am at the Sacramento Valley Veterans National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
