Colin Mitchell Wakefield was born August 15th, 1988, five minutes after his fraternal twin brother, Corey at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Although he and his family resided briefly upstate in Rochester, N.Y., most of his childhood was spent at the East 29th street residence in Brooklyn. Colin attended P.S. 269, I.S. 246 and Madison High School; he also attended Sac High and Sac City College after the family’s move out West to Sacramento, California.
As a child Colin was notorious for pulling things apart to see how they worked. On one such occasion he dismantled Grandma Mavis’ little red alarm clock, much to her chagrin. In retrospect, it is apparent that Colin was just honing his skills throughout his childhood to understand the inner workings of mechanical things. This practice prepared him for his incredible ability as an adult to fix almost anything.
Colin always sported a great big smile and had the gentlest spirit. He enjoyed “favorite brother” status -- a title most affectionately bestowed upon him by both younger sisters. He loved animals and aided in sneaking all types of pets into the house. During his teen years in Brooklyn, he was a skilled in-line skater and could be seen skating circles around his family and friends. Among his siblings, Colin was a comedian, famous for his corny jokes and pranks which held his audience captive.
As the Wakefield children acclimated to their California move, attending a new school and making new friends, they quickly became popular in Sac High circles. Among their many friends was Nicole Sena, Colin’s high school sweetheart. The couple parted ways after a time, but Colin still held Nicole in the highest regard.
Towering over everyone at 6ft 4inches, Colin grew into young adulthood incredibly strong and strikingly handsome. The most remarkable thing about Colin was his physical strength. Even as a baby, Colin moved his crib around, pushing and steering it wherever he desired, ultimately breaking the furniture. Soft-spoken, smiling, and confident, grown up Colin considered modeling. His beauty and strength, as well as his gracious personality, were a winning combination. Prior to his modeling aspirations, Colin managed staff at Starbucks in Sacramento; in New York and New Jersey he worked as a line cook.
After a five-year stay in NYC, Colin returned to the West coast and quickly settled in, working independently as a Day Trader along with part-time security duty at Old Ironsides. Colin loved to entertain, he loved to cook and was developing a reputation as an accomplished chef, teaming up with his mother to Guest Chef on Mondays at Old Ironsides. Colin was a child of promise; he had many positive things going for him. Although we mourn his untimely passing, it will not deter us from celebrating the life of one so gentle and beautiful.
Colin is survived by his mother, Donna; father, Mitch; special guardian, Eddie; siblings, Ryan, Sean, Ian, Corey, Lauren, and Nicole; nephews, Caleb, and Sage; niece, Eliana; Aunt, Lindy-Ann; lifelong friend Shelton and all the many wonderful family and friends who have loved and supported Colin and whose lives have been enriched for knowing him.
