In this city, 1950 to 25 September 2014 in Sacramento. Bill graduated in the Class of 1968 from McClatchy High School and from CSUC, Sacramento with a degree in Microbiology. After two surgeries he fought the constant pain of his degenerative spinal condition with Oxycontin which, for 13 years, allowed him to work in his landscaping business and live some semblance of normal life. In July his new medical plan cut off the drug and suggested a psychiatrist in lieu of narcotic pain management. In September, unable to stand the constant, excruciating pain, Bill bought a gun and ended his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joanna and David Hays and is survived by his brother, David Hays (Mary), of Loomis and sisters Barbara Cook (Frank) and Kathy Hays of Sacramento. He was the much loved “Uncle Billy” of Kristin Faust; Fred “Trey” Bonetti (Luz); Lindsay Filby (Scott); Stephanie Cook; Tom Stroud (Kelley) & 7 grand-nieces and nephews.
In addition, he survived by his dear, life-long friends, Michael Geary, Timothy Leake and Stephen Demetre who supported him through all his dark times.
