Adelaide Ann Davis

She was born on in Rumford, Maine on July 26, 1922, the daughter of the late Lawrence A. and Isabelle (Bouchard) Clifford, and was one of seven children. Adelaide graduated from Stephens High School and was employed by Metropolitan Insurance Company until she left to raise her family.

She married William E. Davis on September 29, 1947, and they raised four children. After her children were grown, Adelaide worked for the Town of Rumford in the Surveyor’s Office and the Town Manager’s Office from 1967 to 1987.

Adelaide was a communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior where she enjoyed years of singing in the choir. She also enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii and many states within the United States with friends and family. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, including her four children, five grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Stephen Davis and wife, Tina, of Florida, daughter-in-law, Jennie Davis, of Bryant Pond, daughter, Betty Phillips, of Old Orchard Beach, and a son, William Davis and companion, Susan Everett, of Rumford; her grandchildren, Kenneth Davis, Michael Davis, Jared Davis, Danielle MacCartney, and Dean Phillips; 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Jaeger and husband, Harry, of Virginia; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Lois Ross, and a brother-in-law, Jack Blanchard.

Adelaide was predeceased by her parents; husband William in 1980; a son, Clifford in 2021; four brothers Arthur, Laurence, Philip, and Robert Clifford; and a sister. Theresa Duguay.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Parish of the Holy Savior Church in Rumford. Committal services will then follow at St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Adelaide’s memory can be made to Rumford Community Home or to Androscoggin Home Health Care & Hospice.
