William Henry Walker, age 73, of Atlanta, passed away on April 28, 2021. He was born on July 15, 1947, in New York City to James Joseph Walker and Elizabeth Frances Scully Walker. He grew up in Stewart Manor, New York, where he enjoyed many sports and was a standout in basketball and track at Sewanhaka High School. His track achievements led him to study at the Naval Academy and Fordham University. He worked in New Jersey for a season before moving to Atlanta in 1971, where he worked for Equifax, spent many years managing Wendy’s franchises and worked in corporate and recruiting for Wendy’s. Bill is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jay Walker. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Bill) Magee, and his beloved grandchildren Darcy and Walker; his brother Greg (Eileen); nieces, Jennifer (Dago) and Kathryn (Garrett) and their children Flynn and Abby; and his nephews Danny and his daughter Vesta, and Stewart (Amanda) and their son, Oscar.
Bill was a proud and loving father who instilled a love of adventure in his daughter, a doting grandfather to Darcy and Walker who accompanied them to theme parks, played countless games and taught them the art of making great brownies. His love for the game of golf began in his early teen years as a caddy, and he continued playing for the rest of his life. He was an ace at trivia and a wonderful teller of stories, many of which were about his fond memories of growing up in Stewart Manor. He returned to his childhood home to care for his mother when she began to suffer from Alzheimer’s and is admired for the beautiful, tangible way he loved her by giving her several more years in her own home.
A memorial service will be held at the outdoor Founder’s Chapel at Perimeter Church in Johns Creek, GA on June 23rd at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of his beloved mother.
