Robert (Bob) Murphy, the son of Harry Miles Murphy and Marie Elizabeth (nee Gresimer), was born on June 14, 1936, in Chester, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Leedom Estates, Ridley Park, PA (1944-1962), and graduated from Ridley Park High School and Widener College (now Widener University). He married Mary Margaret Hayes on November 11, 1961, in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, while on military duty with the U.S. Army during the Berlin Wall Crisis (1960-1962). Bob later worked as comptroller for the United States Defense Logistics Agency. Bob was a founding parishioner at St. Ann Catholic Church, Marietta, GA, from 1978-2010. He was later a parishioner at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Woodstock, GA. Bob joined the Knights of Columbus in 2018. He was a collector and seller of rare books and Mexican coins and an avid ham radio operator. He and Mary Margaret loved to travel in their retirement, especially a trip to Ireland, an Alaskan cruise, and collecting shells at Sanibel Island.
He is survived by sons, Michael (Pam), Tom (Lisa) and Kevin (Cindy); brother, Ken (Debbie); and sister, Elaine (Dennis); and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made in his memory to Parkinson's Foundation, the Cancer Foundations, and Catholic Charities USA.
There will be visitation at Roswell Funeral Home 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA 30076 on Thursday evening, January 16, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Funeral Mass will be at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 4905 Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA 30062, on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM. The Mass will be livestreamed on the parish website for those who cannot travel.
