Neil Allen Wells was born to the late Willard and Dona Wells in Jonesville, Virginia on April 29, 1938. He was immersed in the Baptist community that would be his lifelong support from an early age. Neil met his wife, Bessie Alice Mowery, while working at Standard Register in Dayton, Ohio before honorably serving in the U.S. Army as a military police officer from November 22, 1961 to November 21, 1963. Bessie and Neil married in 1962 and shared 62 wonderful years together. During 2004, Neil retired from Carlson Companies in Atlanta, Georgia. Neil raised his son, Scott Allen, with patience, humility and passed along his compassionate heart and handyman skills.
Neil was the rock of the Wells family. He was a devoted family man and a beloved "Pappy" to his three grandchildren. He adored his granddaughter, Caroline Ann, and spent countless hours with her talking about her American Girl Doll collection, building her a beautiful doll wardrobe, and becoming one of the top 25 purchasers of American Girl. Neil enjoyed hearing about his grandson, Connor Allen’s, activities at Pathway to Work. He was his other grandson, Cameron Scott’s, biggest fan from afar and enjoyed receiving highlights of his achievements whether it was academics or athletics. His house was filled with pictures of the family and friends he loved and cherished.
Neil was kind and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how big or small. He could fix almost anything and was known for his handyman skills, earning the nickname "Alpharetta Handyman" in his neighborhood.
In recent years, Neil’s devotion to his wife was evident as he lovingly cared for her as she battles dementia.
Neil is survived by his wife, Bessie Alice Wells; son, Scott Allen Wells, and his wife, Jill Renee; grandchildren, Caroline Ann, Connor Allen, and Cameron Scott; siblings, Judy Trent and Jerry Wells; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Wells and Dona Wells; siblings, James Wells, Bond Wells, Bruce Wells, Kyle Wells, Carl Wells, Frank Wells, Bonnie Newman, and Sue Terrill. A celebration of Neil’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pathway to Work, https://azpathwaytowork.org/donate a cause close to Neil’s heart. This non profit organization is a meaningful program for his grandson, Connor.
Neil will be remembered as a man of integrity, warmth, and boundless love for his family, community, and country. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
