Mali was born to the late Abdollah Rafati and the late Moonir Mahmoudzadeh on December 19, 1951, in Babol, Iran. She grew up in both Babol and Tehran.
She arrived in America with her husband and children in 1986, at the height of the devastating Iran-Iraq war. Although they lived comfortably in Iran – her husband, Javad, was a judge and successful businessman – they were forced to start from scratch in their new country. Knowing little to no English, Mali helped her husband raise a successful and close-knit family.
Mali will be remembered by her family and friends for her patience, kindness, and selflessness.
Mali is survived by her husband, Javad, her children, Azadeh, Farrokh, and Cyrus, her seven grandchildren ( Ayda, Kian, Kayden, Kiana, Arianna, Silas, and Remi), and her siblings, Farhad and Mahri.
