Rob was born to the late Myron Vinton Robinson and the late Alice Isabelle Stockdale Robinson on June 11, 1942 in Canton, Ohio.
Rob grew up in Canton, OH, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960. Following high school, he attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, graduating in 1964. He then became a proud member of the United States Marine Corps where he met his future wife, Janice Deane Helvey of New Market, VA. After a whirlwind romance, Rob and Jan were married in 1965 in Washington, DC. Shortly after the marriage, Rob got orders to Vietnam where he served for a year. Following his tour of duty in Vietnam, Rob and Jan were reunited and stationed in Yokosuka, Japan.
He was honorably discharged in 1968, although “Once a Marine, always a Marine”, and he began a career in federal law enforcement as an investigator with the FBI, the Veteran’s Administration, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Rob retired in 1998 to enjoy a life of pure leisure and golf.
During his long career, Rob and Jan lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, and finally settled in the Atanta area in 1979.
Rob was preceded in death by his cousin, Jack Stockdale, and his brother-in-law, Don Martz.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Janice Deane Helvey, daughter Traci (Jeff) Robinson Zierk, son Stephen (Erinn) Robinson, grandchildren Katharine Soderberg, Samantha Zierk, Finn Robinson, and Will Robinson, sister-in-law Nancy Helvey Martz, nieces Renee (Bob) Maxwell and Donna (Ron) Abernathy, grandnieces Allison Maxwell, Erin Maxwell, and Lauren Abernathy, and cousins Michal Ann Russell, William Finney, and John Finney.
Rob was a gifted athlete playing golf, handball, baseball, racketball, and bowling. He was very competitive and loved games and puzzles such as chess, bridge, and Sudoku. He and Jan were blessed to have a close circle of friends who loved to travel the world together.
He was a member of Mt. Pisgah UMC for 44 years where he sang in the chancel choir, played softball, and attended Bible study.
Services will be held at Mt. Pisgah UMC on Old Alabama Road on Saturday, July 15 at 12:00 PM. Rob will be interred at St. Matthews Cemetery in New Market, VA.
