John was born on August 28, 1947 to John and Millicent Harris in Cleveland, Ohio, and shortly thereafter moved to the Chicago suburbs, where he grew up. He graduated from Glenbrook South High School in 1965 and received a BS of psychology from DePauw University in 1969. After completing his education, John proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was known for his love of family, positive attitude, sense of humor, kind heart, and business acumen.
He loved the game of golf, history, nature, enjoying sports, travel, his golden retrievers, and staying active.
Throughout his life, John achieved many accomplishments in his career in commercial furniture and touched the lives of countless individuals with his generosity as a leader. In later years, John enjoyed helping at risk youth as a CASA mentor and spending lots of time on the golf course. In retirement, nothing brought him more joy than his granddaughters.
John will be deeply missed by his wife, Barb, his three children, Becky Clark (and her husband Johnny), Tracy Bennett, Tim Harris (and his wife Rachel), his granddaughters, Kate and Sophie Bennett and Evie Brown, and brothers, Bill Harris (and his wife Diantha) and Dewey Harris (and his wife Anne), and his wife's family: Ann Smith (and her husband Craig), Bill Arthur (and his wife Eileen), and Betsy Greno (and her husband Jim). John also leaves behind his beloved nephews, niece, their families, and countless dear friends.
The Harris family appreciates all of the encouragement, care, and support of family, many good friends, and neighbors during John's recent battle with ALS.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 6, 2024 from 5:00-7:00PM at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd Roswell GA 30076. A celebration of life service will be on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 11:00am in the Roswell Funeral Home Chapel.
