JAMES FRANKLIN LANGFORD February 9, 1927 – November 17, 2017. James Franklin Langford was born in Pavo, Georgia. Jim joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 during World War II and received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. He then attended Emory University for three years and graduated from Emory School of Medicine in 1953 with Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees. Jim served his internship at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee and completed his Family Practice residency at Wilmington General Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1955, he moved to the small town of Roswell, population approximately 2,500, where he practiced medicine until the early 2000s. Jim loved being a doctor and loved his patients. He was instrumental in the development of both Northside Hospital and North Fulton Hospital, having been one of the major contributors of land for Northside Hospital. He also was the source of numerous other charitable contributions to both organizations and individuals in need, most often anonymously. He was an active member of both Roswell United Methodist Church and later Roswell Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Stephenson Langford, with whom he eloped three months after their first blind date. Other survivors include his sons and their wives, Dr. David and Melissa Langford and Gary and Elizabeth Langford, and five grandchildren Mary Allen Langford DeBold (Josh), Stephen Middleton Langford, Anne Kimpton Langford, David Knox Langford and John (Jack) Stephenson Langford. He was predeceased by son, Stephen Jeffrey Langford, and a grandson, James Jeffrey Langford.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Monday, November 20 at Roswell Presbyterian Church, 755 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell, GA. Dr. Bill Nisbet will officiate the ceremony. A reception in the church parlor will follow the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the RPC Men’s Bible Study Group for use in their charities, and may be mailed to the Roswell Presbyterian Church, 755 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell, GA 30075
