Geraldine (Jerri) K Abbott, 69, passed away on December 26th after a long and hard fought battle with breast cancer. Jerri was born on October 3rd, 1947 to Martha and Claude Kuglar – the firstborn of her parents’ 3 beautiful daughters. A born and bred Georgian - she grew up in Atlanta alongside her 2 younger sisters and attended Southwest High School. In 1969, she graduated from Oglethorpe University with a double-major in psychology and sociology, in addition to, a minor in philosophy. For the past 15+ years, Jerri worked as an analyst and manager with Foodbuy/Compass; she was also a retired employee of Coca-Cola.
Jerri had an adventurous spirit and a curious mind – a combination that compelled her to seek new experiences, learn new things, and explore new places. One of her favorite adventures – about which she loved to reminisce – was when she decided to pack up, head “across the pond”, and backpack through Europe for a month. Though that was in her 20’s, that spirit and curiosity never faded. Jerri loved singing, knitting, fashion, and Broadway shows; she was a lover of music and a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Likely her favorite place, she loved NYC and often referred to it as her second home.
A fiercely strong woman, Jerri’s wit was as sharp as her laughter and joy were contagious. Her friends will remember her vibrancy, her kind and supportive nature. They will recall a steadfast friend – a reliable source of strength - whose shoulder they knew they could always cry on. A supportive and patient teacher, her co-workers often described Jerri as a lifeline. A collaborator who brought out the best in all with whom she worked – she was truly committed to helping others thrive.
A beloved mother, sister, aunt, niece, and daughter – Jerri’s lifetime love was her family. She especially cherished opportunities to gather with the entire family – be it at a wedding, cousins’ weekend, holiday, or one of the infamous Berryman family reunions. She held these times with family dear and her love was unwavering.
She will be missed and forever remembered by her many friends and family members.
Jerri is survived by her daughter, Ashley Jeanette Abbott, sisters, Judy Kuglar Wall and Jane Kuglar Fallin, brother-in-laws, Donny Wall and Vince Fallin, and her loving kitty, Lily.
