Dulayne Cumberlander

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sergeant First Class (E-7) Dulayne Cumberlander Sr., who departed this life on Monday, November 18, 2024, surrounded by love and family in Woodstock, Georgia. Born on October 20, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan, Dulayne lived a life of honor, service, and devotion to his family and country.

The cherished son of Willie Henry Cumberlander and Margaret Sims Cumberlander, both of whom preceded him in death, Dulayne embodied the values of strength, faith, and resilience instilled by his parents. He was a beloved brother to his siblings: Hammett David Cumberlander (deceased), Charles Valentino Cumberlander (deceased), Margaret Bingham, Duley Cumberlander (deceased), Brenda Cumberlander (deceased), and a host of nieces and nephews, many of whom have been deeply impacted by his wisdom and kindness.

Dulayne devoted 37 years of exemplary service to the United States Army, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant First Class (E-8) before being honorably discharged. A courageous and steadfast leader, he served his country during two pivotal moments in history: Operation Desert Storm and the War in Afghanistan. His bravery, integrity, and dedication to his nation will forever be remembered by those who served alongside him and by the family who took immense pride in his service.

Dulayne’s greatest legacy lies in the family he loved unconditionally. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Linette Darcia Willis Cumberlander, who stood steadfastly by his side through life’s joys and challenges. Together, they raised four children who carry on his spirit and values: Lanitra Darcia Cumberlander, Dulayne Antoine Cumberlander, Kevin Robert Cumberlander, and Koby James Cumberlander. He was also a loving father-in-law to Carly Davis Cumberlander, whom he cherished.

As a grandfather, Dulayne found endless joy in his two grandchildren: Dulayne James Cumberlander and Davis Jesse Cumberlander. They brought light to his days and carried his name with pride, a testament to the enduring legacy of love and dedication he passed down through generations.

He also leaves to cherish his memory, father-in-law James Willis and brothers-in-law Robert and Kevin Willis. He is preceded in death by his mother-in-law Hattie Ruth Willis.

A man of deep faith, humility, and generosity, Dulayne touched countless lives with his compassion and quiet strength. His love for his country was equaled only by his love for his family, and his life stands as a shining example of commitment, perseverance, and honor.

Dulayne is now reunited in eternal peace with his parents and his siblings who preceded him in death. Though our hearts ache in his absence, we find solace in knowing his legacy will continue to inspire us. His values—integrity, resilience, and love—will guide his family and all those who knew him.
