Catherine (Penny) Madaline Mangan (nee Eichler) of Suwanee, Georgia passed away October 7, 2024 at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Franklin Eichler and big sister Joan Neuschwanter. She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Charles “Chuck” Mangan and her daughters Kelly (Brian) Coltrane and Kathleen (Joey) Ferrante. Grammy to five grandchildren whom she absolutely adored and would brag for hours about if you gave her the chance: Rachel Coltrane, David Coltrane, Charlie Ferrante, Emma Ferrante and Nick Ferrante.
Born March 24, 1946 in Jersey City, NJ, Penny attended St. Aedan’s Elementary School and Saint Dominic Academy (class of 1963). After high school, Penny attended Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. As a lover of grammar and math, Penny went on to have a career as an Administrative Assistant at Hayden Stone in New York and later in Georgia at various companies.
Penny had a lifelong passion for horses and adored horseback riding as a teen down at the Jersey shore. Penny had quite the competitive spirit. She knew how to deliver a bowling ball down the lane, serve with a mean spin on a tennis ball, and fire an arrow in competitive archery.
Penny was a breast cancer survivor and an advocate for all women to get their yearly mammograms for early detection.
Penny had an unwavering devotion to our Mother Mary, extraordinary courage and an immense love for her family. We take comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and is now reunited with her parents and sister in heaven.
Friends and family are invited to Penny’s Celebration of Life with a funeral Mass held at the Catholic Church of St. Ann in Marietta, GA on October 22 at 11:00 a.m. presided by Father Joe Aquino. The family invites you to join them after mass for a lunch reception at the church. Penny will be buried after the reception at Green Lawn Cemetery & Mausoleum in Roswell.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Ann Life Teen Program (Catholic Church of St. Ann-4905 Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30062) or Susan G. Komen for the Cure (komen.org).
