Janet T. Derr

Janet T. Derr (nee: Pickler), age 88 of Sterling Heights, passed away the afternoon of Friday, December 4th, 2015. She was a long time resident of Roseville and later resided in Clinton Twp., and Sterling Heights, Michigan.

She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Derr. Loving Mother of Janice (James) Fagg and Dale (Cheryl) Derr. Dear Grandmother of Christopher (Dana) Farr, Steven (Whitney) Derr, Bryan Derr, Stacey Finch and Melissa Holland. Great-Grandmother of Dylan, Matthew and Mason Finch.

Janet was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan March 24, 1927 to Helen and Charles Pickler. She grew up in Roseville and attended Eastland High School where she was a member of the high school marching band and played the clarinet.

She worked at Michigan Bell as a telephone operator in Roseville for many years, along with her sister, Betty Friedt.

She married Thomas Derr on June 29, 1946 at Bethelehem Lutheran Church in Roseville, officiated by Pastor Wieneke.

Later Janet would go on to work at E.J. Korvette’s Department Store in Roseville as a switch board operator for over 10 years. She retired in the early 80’s to join her husband Tom in his retirement.

They both enjoyed their retirement by traveling around the United States from Hawaii to Florida and from California to New York, as well as many states in between. They also spent many summers in Northern Michigan with family and friends through the years.

Janet’s hobbies included plastic canvas and beaded crafts, sewing, cross stitching, baking, canning and gardening. She also grew beautiful roses and many other flowers that decorated her yard.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 8th from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Kaul Funeral Home, 27830 Gratiot Ave., Roseville. Her Funeral Service officiated by Rev. Jeffrey Fritz will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9th at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens, East, 38425 Garfield Rd., Clinton Township.
