October 3, 1928-June 19, 2021
It is with much sadness to announce that Bill passed away peacefully June 19, 2021 at the age of 92 in Walnut Creek, CA. Bill was born October 3, 1928 to William Sr. and Ruth Malmquist Berry of Wayzata, MN. He was a long-time resident of Wayzata and worked in the family business Berry Auto Body before pursuing a career with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department in Minneapolis, MN. As a Deputy he launched and ran the new Mobile Crime Lab Investigation Unit which was state of the art at the time and it still continues to this day. Later as a Captain he was in charge of the Water Patrol Department on Lake Minnetonka. He proudly wore his uniform and devoted 25 years of service to Hennepin County. He was a member of the Zuhrah Shriners Club of Wayzata for over 20 years and had served as president.
Following his retirement with Hennepin County he relocated to Bonita Springs, FL. Always wanting to help others he became a Stephens Minister. His deep faith brought comfort to many patients and their families with loved ones in hospice. He was also an active member with a great group of men called the "Mouse Club" who were all born in the same year. They reached out and assisted many in need within their community.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years Kathryn Berry, parents William and Ruth Berry, brother George Berry. He is survived by his daughters Barbara (Walt) Podesta, Kyle ( Sam) Ice, grandchildren Kevin (Andrea) Podesta, Maggie Podesta, Dena (Wade) Johnson, Joan (JP) Broerman. He also had 5 great grandchildren Joie and Cole Johnson, Marie, Ray and Brynn Broerman.
