Survived by brothers Richard and Michael Connelly.
Loving father to Colleen Satterlee, Kathleen Connelly, Elizabeth Connelly, Peter Connelly Jr., Andrew Connelly and Leslie Connelly, his children from his first marriage to Suzanne Connelly.
He will be missed by his grandchildren Brandon, Eric, Wendy, Serena, Amanda, Rosemary, Tyler, Lauren, Katie , Allie, Benjamin and Mia and great-grandchildren Kaylen, Emyliana, Liam, Niall, Benjamin, Rachyl, Avery, Dylan, Van, Jack and Leo.
Peter was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years Carolyn Greer Connelly, his parents, Martin and Loraine Connelly, and his special aunt Marie Loechner.
Peter was a decorated United States Air Force career officer and Vietnam veteran. Colonel Connelly retired in 1988. His family is very proud of his service. He loved flying military airplanes particularly helicopters. His career took him to many destinations, including England, Japan, Southeast Asia, and numerous locations in the United States. He loved to travel and made memories and lifelong friends at each location. Peter also loved dogs, always having a pair. He was interested in World War II history and movies, Winston Churchill, reciting poems, entertaining, and socializing with friends and family. He particularly loved the poem “High Flight” by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. ; he wished it read and distributed to family and friends upon his passing.
Peter’s last years were spent in northern California, enjoying his large family. Fond memories were made with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He cultivated new friendships at his senior community, Atria Rocklin. Prior to moving to California, Peter and his wife, Carolyn, resided for many years in Wilmington, North Carolina and he is missed by many friends there.
Peter’s cheerful demeanor, and helpful nature will be remembered by all who knew him.
Family memorial service will be held at Lambert funeral Chapel in Roseville, California on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 11 AM. A Reception will immediately follow in Lambert's catering room.
Donations in memory of Peter may be made to Samaritans Purse, or a dog rescue organization of your choice in lieu of flowers.
