John was born in Martinez, California on November 11, 1960, to Edward and Ruth Forbes. In his younger years, John lived in Escalon before moving with his family to Oakdale, California, where he competed in cross country at Oakdale High School before graduating in 1978. After high school, John attended Modesto Junior College and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Through the years, John worked at multiple convalescent hospitals in the Modesto area, finishing his career at Colony Park Convalescent where he was Director of Staff Development.
John enjoyed barbequing and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Throughout his life, John also had a great love of rock and roll music, playing bass guitar in the band Jynx in his youth. John was a life-long collector of comic books, action figures and everything Warhammer. As a die-hard San Francisco 49er fan, John enjoyed attending games at Candlestick Park and supported his favorite players by wearing their jerseys on game days. Throughout the past few years, John found a love of Top Golf to showcase his skills.
In retirement, John and Cyndee enjoyed their time together, which was often spent on day trips visiting some of their favorite places. Over the years, their travels included Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, Mt. Rushmore, Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Canada.
John accepted Christ on February 13, 1990 and was recently baptized and became a member of First United Methodist Church Roseville, on June 2, 2024.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brother Edward (Ed) Forbes and sister Kathleen Collier. He is survived by his wife Cyndee Forbes; his children John (Naomi) Forbes, Alexander (Kanella) Forbes, Eli Forbes, Elizabeth (fiancé Collin Le) Forbes, and Amanda Forbes; and grandchildren Alexander Jr, Kylie, Lily, Gary, and Dinah Forbes. In addition, John is survived by Hazel Flora (mother-in-law), Brenda (Tim) McDonald (sister-in-law), nephews Brent Collier, Scott Wilson, and Anthony McDonald; niece Bryanne (Jared) Lucas; and great-nephew James Lucas. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends, including Cyndee’s uncle Michael (Mai) Graser.
