Sue was born on February 2, 1915, daughter of the late William E. Barron and Sara Adeline Jackson Barron. She just celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by relatives and friends. Sue spent most of her life in Rome. She grew up on a dairy farm on Barron Road near Shannon, GA. She graduated from Model in 1932 and went on to graduate from Maryville College in Tennessee. Sue was retired from Harbin Clinic, where she was the first medical secretary at the Harbin Hospital hired and trained by Dr. Lester Harbin. She and her husband, John L. Richard, lived on East 11th Street. For the past four years, she has lived with her eldest son and his wife. In the last years of her life, she was surrounded by her step grandchildren and a host of boys from Boy Scout Troup 34. She loved to watch them and give instruction to them when needed. Sue enjoyed crafting, journaling and entertaining. She loved riding in the care, reading street signs and looking at all the cars. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, boating and going on vacations. Sue was a member of Second Avenue Baptist Church for over 60 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Richard; a grandson, Joseph Richard; sisters Estelle Bowen and Helen Web; and brothers, Roy and Jack Barron. Survivors include a sister, Amy Read and a brother Hoyt Barron; sons, John M (Becky) and Larry B (Vicki); grandchildren, Elizabeth (Josh) Winters, Julie (Tim) Turkowski, and Casey Parrish; step-grandchildren, Josh (Keisha), Jonathan (Tonya), Jason (Meg), Jenny Swinford, and Shane Parrish; great grandchildren, Chris and Michael Winters and Sophie Turkowski; step-great grandchildren Shawn Parham, Brandon, Kaitlyn, Brayden Swinford and Brooke Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. The funeral service will be held immediately following in the Thomas B. Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with the Reverend Monty Stallins officiating.
