Phoebe is also survived by her cousins, Steve Crader, Helen Heise, Janis Karleskint-Stricker and a few other loved friends and distant family.
Phoebe was born in the family home in Lutesville, Missouri on May 2, 1940.
Phoebe came from a very musical family. She sang with her family quartet which consisted of her Mom, who sang tenor; her Dad, who sang bass; and her sister, Lee, who sang soprano. Phoebe sang alto. She received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO and then went on to receive her Master’s Degree at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Upon graduation, she immediately received a position as a Vocal Professor at Shorter College in Rome, GA. She remained in this position for nearly 40 years!
Phoebe shared her beautiful soprano voice with many churches in Rome and was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church for the duration of her residence in Rome. In her final years, when she moved back to Rome with her niece, Lora Lee Stewart, she would attend West Rome Methodist Church. Phoebe sang for many years with the Robert Shaw Chorale in Atlanta as well as with the Rome Symphony Chorus, which is now The Three Rivers Singers. She performed many recitals at Shorter College with John Ramsaur, who was head of the music department, with Helen Ramsaur as her accompanist. She has a multitude of connections with people from Shorter College and Berry College! Phoebe spent time in Munich, Germany where she performed with the chorus there and taught as well. She also traveled to Spain with some of her students along with her nephew, Jonathan Stewart.
She was loved by so many people and touched so many lives! She was a funny, smart, witty, loving, caring daughter, sister, aunt, teacher, musician, singer, colleague and friend. She will be missed by so many, but I know she is rejoicing in her heavenly home with all of her dear family members! RIP Phoebe Carol Pomeroy!
A service will be held at 2 pm on October 27, 2024 in the chapel at Daniel’s funeral home with Reverend Tim Galloway officiating.
