August 28, 1932 – September 18, 2023
Mrs. Harvey was the daughter of the late Mose Wright Dunwoody and Hattie Lee Owings Dunwoody. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Wright Harvey, Esq., of Asheville, North Carolina and her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. R. Donald Harvey, III, and Dr. Christine L. Kempton, of Avondale Estates, Georgia, and three grandsons, Clark Louis Land, Robert Donald Harvey, IV, and Parker Kempton Harvey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, R. Donald Harvey, Jr. and her daughter Lila Lee Harvey Land.
She was born and grew up in Rome, Georgia, was an honors graduate of Girl’s High School in 1949, then attended Shorter College and graduated with honors in 1953 in religion and education. Following graduation, she began teaching at the Fourth Ward School, and, after marriage, began a series of moves throughout the Southeast to small towns for Donald’s textile work, which included returning to Rome for eight years when Donald took a job with Burlington Industries in Shannon, where she was able to renew old friendships, make new ones, and enjoy being near family again. A transfer to Asheboro, North Carolina was her next home where she became very involved with the Church of the Good Shepherd where she became the first woman to serve on the vestry.
Following time in Asheboro, she and the two Donalds moved to Tralee, Ireland for 2 years, and eventually moved back to Rome in 1992.
She was a voracious reader, and was incredibly social. She loved a good cocktail and dinner party and built a loving group of friends throughout her lifetime.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Peter’s Church, Heyman Hospice, or a charity of your choice. A special thanks to the entire staff on the second floor of Magnolia Place at The Spires at Berry College for their loving care this year.Patricia Dunwoody Harvey
