Mac Bonds Bolton

Mr. Bolton was born in Red Bay, AL, on August 16, 1922, the son of the late A. T. Bolton and Iva Strickland Bolton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Ransom Bolton, to whom he was married August 13, 1955, a brother, Ossie Bolton and a sister, Geraldine Bolton Wilson. He received his BS Degree from the University of North Alabama (formerly Florence State Teachers College, Florence, AL, and his Masters Degree from Peabody School of Education, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN.

Mr. Bolton was the former principal of East Rome Junior High School, Adairsville High school and Coosa High School. He started the basketball program at Adairsville High School and won Girls’ State Title. He also coached football and baseball. He was the former owner and operator of The Shrimp Boat for ten years. He retired in 1978 to enjoy his favorite pastime golf and was the Nation’s Most Active Golfer in 1984. He played 289 rounds at his home club, Coosa Country Club, in Rome. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves and Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He was also a member of the Second Avenue United Methodist Church and the Democratic Party.

Mr. Bolton served two active tours of duty with the U. S. Army – Dec. ’42 to April ’46 and June ’49 to June’52 in Japan and during the Korean Conflict with the rank of First Lieutenant.

Survivors include his daughter, Kay Bolton Mauer, and her husband, James Mauer, Rome; grandson, Shane Walley, and his wife, Laura Howse Walley, Rome; and his loving caregivers, Rachel (Suzy) Day, Debbie Lumpkin, Pam Parker, Glenda Duke, Maxine Findley and Colleen Stanfield; and three nieces, Joy Carson, Florence, AL, and Dean Hill and Alice Carden both of Anniston, AL.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 23, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home, Rome, with the Rev. Tom McElroy officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5 American Legion Honor Guard in charge of military rites.

The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Monday, May 23, 2011, from 1 until 2 p.m.
