Carol Bowen Hatch, age 68 of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023 after a brave, extended battle with cancer. She was born on July 16, 1955 at McCall Hospital in Rome, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Johnson Bowen and Gladys Elizabeth Sumner Bowen.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, John Robert Hatch; daughters, Emma Hatch and Molly (Martin Bell) Hatch; brother, Perry Bowen (Fran); sister, Leigh Kosater (Greg); her nieces and nephews, extended family, and her rescue dog, Lola.
Carol had the good fortune of growing up on the Berry Schools campus. She was a 1973 graduate of Armuchee High School where she was a top student, trumpeter in marching band, and member of the basketball team. She attended Berry College and in 1975, she married her high school sweetheart, Johnny. After several years in Oklahoma City, Carol and Johnny moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where in 1981, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University in Banking and Finance.
After several years of enjoying Cajun culture, the family returned to Rome in 1990. Carol began what would become an over 30 year career with Hardy Realty. Many have described her as an inspirational leader who worked hard to cultivate the strengths of those around her. She was always there to support her clients and colleagues with a smile and a solution.
Carol was an avid tennis player, who captained many award-winning teams. On the court her opponents feared her vicious forehand. Off the court she was an outspoken advocate for the growth of tennis in the Rome area, as evidenced by her tenure as President of the Coosa Valley Tennis Association. She often said to her daughters that the friends you make in tennis will be friends for life.
Giving back to the community was also a passion for Carol. She served on the board of Hospitality House for Women, was a member of Rotary Club, and launched Hardy Helps, Hardy Realty’s community support initiative, among many other contributions.
Carol was a trusted leader at work, at home, and throughout the community. Her strength, confidence, and intelligence were matched only by her kindness, compassion, and humor.
A Memorial Service for Carol Bowen Hatch will be held at Broad&Fifth (The Forrest Place) in Rome, Georgia on Friday, August 4th at 2:00pm. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospitality House for Women.
Daniels Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Carol Bowen Hatch.
