Mrs. Jeanne Maurine Hampton Newberry, 96, met Jesus face to face on August 31, 2023. Jeanne was born March 28, 1927, in New Blaine, AR, to William McKinley Hampton and Anna Marie Lipe Hampton of Mena, AR. Jeanne is survived by her adoring sons Gary (Joy) of Rogers, AR, Richard (Dotti) of Springdale, AR, her daughter-in-love, Jeanne of Memphis, TN, and her brother James (Ganelle) Hampton of Marble Falls, TX.
Jeanne is also survived by her seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and numerous dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Dean E. Newberry, Jr. Together they served several churches as pastor and wife with incredible joy, intention, and integrity. She was also preceded in death by her youngest son, Phillip Newberry, daughter-in-love, Gloria Newberry and sisters-in-law Gena Hampton and Lavon Rhodes.
Jeanne received her B.A. degree from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR., (where she was Miss Ouachita), in 1949, and a master’s degree in music education at the University of Arkansas in 1973. Jeanne taught music education at Southside Elementary School in Rogers, AR., for 25 years, where her lifelong friends, Bonnie Grimes and Lola Malone served as principals. Jeanne taught many children the love of music in school and in the church's children’s ministry. She was a fantastic soloist who was known for singing ‘His Eye Is on the Sparrow.’ She loved and served her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, creating the kind, tender-hearted, and giving person everyone knew her to be. She enjoyed hosting family and friends in her home. Her family enjoyed many favorite meals around her table, affectionately called “Mamaw meals”. Jeanne loved to travel. Her favorite destination was traveling to Africa to see her missionary brother, James. She prayed for her family, gave us words of wisdom faithfully, and was a godly influence and example to all. We carry with us all she gave us and hope to emulate all she was.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 8th at Rollins Funeral Home from 10:00-11:00am, with service immediately to follow at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite Christ honoring charity, or Circle of Life, in Jeanne’s memory.
