Charles D. Brewer, born February 8, 1931, took off unexpectedly on the next leg of our Journey together, May 14, 2019. It was easy for him, I believe. I had prayed God’s hand to be easy on him and to spare him pain, fear and indignity. God’s answers are “yes” and “amen”. He died at home.
Charlie was born in Tulsa, Okla., where he grew up. He hunted, camped with the Boy Scouts –Beaver Patrol, and shot on his high school rifle team, played in the band, read good books and bicycled far and wide with his brother Robert.
He got a BS from Tulsa University and was in sales for most of his professional career, selling among other things, Hammond Organs! He could sell iceboxes to Eskimos, he was that good.
He moved to Rogers in 1975 to sell welding supplies. He loved Arkansas. He also loved swimming, playing the organ with the American Theater Organ Society, hike the Ozark Highlands Trail (he helped with the building and maintenance of the OHT for years).
He was a hardcore motorcycle fiend, riding in observed trials, enduro, touring and just plain pleasure riding.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Betty, and his two brothers, Robert and George. He is survived by his son John Brewer, nephew Bob Brewer, niece Georgia Kilmartin, his dog Buddy, (who will now be a Florida dog); and a host of friends who were precious to him.
Papa said: “Don’t cry. Don’t send flowers; In lieu of flowers and donations, join the NRA or sign someone else up. Do it now, before it’s illegal.”
I loved my Papa. He loved a lot of people. Love Never Dies. Love is all there is. Let us celebrate a life of Love. Carry on friends, and pass it on.
There will be a private informal gathering at his house, Saturday, May 25th at 4pm. RSVP to his son, John. Music making and storytelling will be encouraged.
Arrangements are under the care of Rollins Funeral Home.
