On November 30, 2012, age 82, of Silver Spring, Maryland. Beloved husband of 45 years of the late Helen Levine Kaufman, devoted father of Sarah (Stan) Kaufman-Relph and Joshua (Jessica) Kaufman, loving grandfather of Zachary and Noah Kaufman. Also survived by cherished nieces, cousins and friends.
Bob grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After attending the University of Wisconsin where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Math and Physics, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his Master's Degree in Cinema at the University of Southern California.
He spent his career as a cinematographer and later as a professor of film at USC. Bob was the director of photography of the 1961 film "The Exiles" which was placed on the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2009 for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant and will be preserved for all time".
Bob met Helen, the love of his life, in Los Angeles in 1966. They raised their children in North Hollywood, California and relocated to Silver Spring, Maryland in 1999 to be near family and to watch their grandsons grow.
Funeral Service will be held at Danzansky-Goldberg Memorial Chapels, Rockville, MD on Sunday December 2, at 10am. Interment will be at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park immediately following the service.
Bob will be remembered for his passion for learning, his gourmet cooking, his love of jazz music, and for his
devotion to his family.
