During her junior year, she met the man who would become her husband, Walter Simon. Walter and Adele participated in the high school dance club and when he asked her to dance, they never looked back. Walter joined the Army and while in Germany, he and Adele exchanged letters weekly for three years. In June of 1957, upon his return from the service, they were married. Their love story was one of the greatest of all time and an inspiration not only to their children but to all who knew them. Even if (when) they were fussing at each other about silly things, noone who spent more than ten seconds around them doubted their deep love and devotion to each other.
Adele went to nursing school at Garfield Memorial Hospital, which would later become Washington Hospital Center. Adele was in the first graduating class from the Washington Hospital Center and would go on to dedicate her life to nursing and taking care of others. She worked in the first initial ward and assisted with the first delivery at the newly established hospital. Adele subsequently became the Assistant Head Nurse of the Post-Partum Ward. She also spent a portion of her nursing career as an ER nurse at Holy Cross Hospital. From there, she transferred to Walter Reed Hospital where she worked in the Oncology Department. Adele later became the Head Nurse of the General Surgical Clinic and the Nurse Recruiter for the hospital. Upon her retirement in 1994, Walter Reed Hospital made her an honorary Army Nurse.
In their retirement, Adele and Walter spent time traveling to Italy, Greece, Israel, LAS VEGAS, across the United States and embarking on countless cruises. Both Adele and Walter became devoted employees and cornerstones of Danzansky-Goldberg Memorial Chapels, Inc.
Adele was the matriarch of her family and brought them together for high holidays, dinners, and special moments.
Adele loved to play mah jong, slots, and supported the Maryland State Lottery Foundation by playing scratch off and lottery tickets weekly.
She was the beloved wife of 56 plus years to Walter F. Simon; devoted and loving mother of Sharon (Jay) Scheiner, the late Michael Simon, and Brian Simon; dear mother in law of Jackie Simon and Brenda Simon; adored grandmother of Ryan, Eric, Rhea Simon, Rebecca Rose “Becca” Simon, Sam, Emily, and Joey Scheiner; cherished sister of Seymour “Ralph” Lubitz, and sister in law of Joel Simon; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers, and mah jong partners.
