Thomas Michael Lowe, 78, was born September 13, 1945 in Vanceburg, Kentucky to the late Thomas Argyle Lowe and Kathleen Beckett Lowe.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Ruth Prichard Lowe of Satellite Beach, Florida; his brother Mark Lowe (Ginny) of Grant-Valkaria, Florida; two sons: Christopher Rex Elam (Natalie) of Vanceburg, Kentucky; Jason Scott Elam (Kayla) of Morehead, Kentucky; seven grandchildren: Abigail Ann Pick, Ella Mauree Elam, Tessa Christine Elam, Ivy Elizabeth Elam, Rex Reeder Elam, Gus Jay-Scott Elam, and Mac Wheeler Elam; two sisters-in law: Betty Karen Prichard Snyder, and Deborah Jean Prichard Gullett (Tom affectionately called the “Goofy twin”).
He was preceded in death by his beloved sister-in-law, Janice Shirrell Prichard Hatfield.
Tom, whose father was an Army Colonel, lived all over the world throughout his formative years. Tom graduated from the University of Kentucky and was the Corps Commander of ROTC while enrolled there. He loved UK football and basketball and was an avid fan throughout his life.
He enjoyed raising and showing English Bulldogs all over the country and had numerous champions. Tom also helped others learn as they bred and showed dogs.
One of Tom’s true passions was mastering BBQ competitions. Over the years he, Barbara, and Firehouse BBQ teammates won numerous Grand Championships, culminating into an invitation to the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational where they placed and were awarded trophies for their brisket and pork. Tom loved teaching friends and family about BBQ.
Tom was a man of many gifts and talents. He was a wonderful cook. He had a curious mind and loved to learn, which gave him an interesting scope and breadth of knowledge of which he loved to share with any and all who had time to listen. He loved to tell stories, listen to great musical artists of all genres, and had a great sense of humor and love of life. He loved his family and children and will be sadly missed by all.
There will be no funeral or memorial service.
