Steven Lawrence Rosbury died at age 74 at his home in Melbourne, Florida on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Steve was born in Detroit Michigan on November 4, 1950 to Howard and Mabel Rosbury. His siblings were Patricia, Doug, Barbara, George, and David. He was in a hurry to grow up, but his parents made him wait until he turned 18 to get married. On November 23, 1969, he got married to Carria Lee Laney (“Lisa”), and they were married for 31 years until her passing. They had three children, Staci, Amy and Terica.
Professionally, Steve started out in a humble position, rolling pennies at a bank, and then worked for Systematics for many years, learning on the job and rising through the ranks of programmers to management level. Eventually, he risked everything to start his own company, Contract Management Solutions, to meet a need in the industry that he could see was not being filled. He was very successful in this venture, working with many fortune 500 companies, and eventually sold his company when he was ready to retire.
Steve was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in his mid 40’s. His mother and brother George also had PD, so the Rosbury family has had more than their fair share of experience with the disease. He had surgery for deep brain stimulators, which did amazing things for his mobility and extended his racquetball playing hobby and his ability to chase his grandchildren around posing as “Papa Monster” for several years. In spite of his many health challenges, he maintained an optimistic outlook.
Steve and Susan Theobald were trendsetters, meeting online on AOL in 2000. They were married on July 5, 2002, and he gained another daughter in Gina. Susan and Steve enjoyed spending summers in Michigan and winters in Florida together. They traveled together and gave generously to charities, including an orphanage and school in Africa which they helped to build. Steve loved his family and all 10 of his grandchildren, and nothing made him happier than to spend time with them.
He loved looking at the sky at night while laying in the driveway, watching Bugs Bunny with his kids on a Saturday morning, shooting off rockets in the backyard, playing volleyball, kickball and softball with the grandkids, having a heart to heart about anything that mattered, bopping people on the head with a balloon or ball or whatever was handy, loving on babies wherever he went, drinking a cola-beer, and enjoying banana pudding on his birthday. He was generous to a fault and shared his love and humor with everyone around him without hesitation.
There will be a viewing at 2:30 and a funeral mass on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 3 pm followed by a reception with a meal at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Community, 5655 Stadium Pkwy, Melbourne, FL 32940. Steve will be laid to rest at St. Clement Cemetery in Centerline, Michigan.
